Many fishermen have flocked to the shores of Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, none more famous than author Ernest Hemingway who lived in Cuba and wrote some of his most famous novels here (The Old Man and the Sea and Islands in the Stream). He even claimed to have used his boat Pilar to search for German submarines off the coast of Cayo Guillermo.
