The official language of Port of Spain is English.   

When to visit

The best time to visit Port of Spain is during its dry season, which falls between mid-January and March, which usually lines up with Carnival season. 

 

What to bring back

Make sure to leave some room in your luggage for colourful Carnival memorabilia such as masks or figurines, tons of savoury spices, local gemstone jewellery and steelpan instruments.  

What to eat

No trip to Port of Spain would be complete without sampling curry duck with a side of rice or roti, doubles, sweet cassava pone dessert, soursop ice cream and more. You can also have your fill of fresh coconut water at Queen’s Park Savannah. 

Fun fact

Did you know that Port of Spain is the birthplace of steelpan music? The steelpan is so beloved that it’s considered Trinidad and Tobago’s national instrument and is the heart and soul of Carnival.
