Fun fact
Poland is a land of plenty. Not only is it home to one of the largest lake districts in Europe (Masurian Lakeland with about 2,000 lakes!) and thousands of the continent’s last bison (found in the Białowieża Forest), but it’s also where you’ll find the world’s largest castle by land area. That’s right, Poland’s Malbork Castle takes that title with its 44 acres located about an hour from Gdansk. Built in the 13th century by Teutonic knights, this Gothic architectural masterpiece includes 3 palaces, chapels, towers, an armoury, countless out-buildings and more!
