Sprawling deserts with vast sand dunes punctuated by the bright green hues of oases partner with coastal salt plains, eastern mountains and the Persian Gulf. The land of Seven Emirates opens to welcome you with classic Emirati hospitality as you explore the capital of Abu Dhabi or indulge in the luxuries of Dubai. The locals affectionately call the land Dar Zayed after the nation’s founder, but we’re hoping you’ll call it your next vacation destination.

Destination facts
Language
Arabic is the official language, but English is widely spoken and found on street signs.
When to visit
If you'd like to enjoy the outdoors, we recommend going between November and April as it’s when the country experiences its “cold” season with temperatures around 17 to 22℃. For indoor activities, the rest of the year offers smaller crowds with sizzling heat.
What to bring back
Chocolate-coated or stuffed dates are classic Emirati gifts, gold jewelry up to 24K, rosewater products, perfumes and oud (agarwood), Arabic coffee sets, camel milk products like chocolate and traditional handicrafts like rugs and other textiles.
What to eat
Local coffees blended with cardamom and saffron, chabab (Emirati pancakes spiced with cardamom and saffron served with date syrup), machboos (chicken, lamb or fish casserole with spiced rice), mhammar (whole spiced fish), and al madrooba (salt fish, spices and thick sauce sprinkled with saffron, nuts and spices).
Fun fact
Although most people know about Dubai, the United Arab Emirates are made up of 7 emirates. The capital of Abu Dhabi is its largest emirate, making up 87% of the country’s total area, while the smallest emirate, Ajman, is only 0.3%.
