Fun fact
There area now occupied by the city of Fredericton was initially land used for agriculture by the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet people, who mainly cultivated corn. The first European settlers to build here were the French in the 17th century. In fact, Fredericton was the location of Fort Nashwaak, which served as the French colony of Acadia’s capital.
