What to bring back
Leche quemada candies are a regional specialty, made from caramelizing sweetened goat’s milk. It’s sold in different varieties with our favourite being the aptly named “Glorias”, which are rolled in chopped pecans for a delicious crunch.
What to eat
Cabrito is the region’s most famous specialty, consisting of a whole kid goat slow roasted over hot coals and served with tortillas, onions, and salsa. For breakfast, locals have machacado: a scrambled egg dish made with dried salted beef.
Fun fact
Monterrey is home to one of the only authentic Inuksuk found outside of Canada! It was built on-site by Inuit artist Bill Nasogaluak as a gift from the Government of Canada and contains two stones brought over from Canada. You can visit it yourself at the Santa Lucía riverwalk.
