Imagine a city with classic European flair—historic squares, cobblestone alleys and iconic buildings—but warmed by Caribbean weather and Colombian zest. That's Cartagena, colouring the coast with sunshine shades. It's best explored by foot, through winding streets, from walled town to waterfront. Escape by boat to utopic islands where thatched-roof huts occupy quiet beaches for you to discover.

Fun fact
Colombia could have been a little less caliente and a lot more…British. In 1741, the British attempted to conquer Cartagena in the Battle of Cartagena de Indias, but the Spanish valiantly defended the city with the help of Admiral Blas de Lezo. Look out for his statue in the Old Town and stand where the battle was won…at the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas fortress.
