Germany is a land of beauty so bewitching, it inspired the world’s most famous fairty tales—those of the Brothers Grimm. It’s easy to see what spurred the creators of Cinderella: enchanting, moody forests, colourful, medieval towns, exquisite palaces and unbelievable, hilltop castles. Between magical landscapes and a coastline hugging the North and Baltic seas, discover cities rich in history, culture and incredible cuisine.

Destination facts
Language
German
What to bring back
Authentic beer steins, traditional wooden Christmas pyramids, flavours of German Haribo gummy bears you can’t find at home, German beer and lebkuchen (heart-shaped gingerbread cookies with cute messages).
What to eat
Sausages (type varies by region), Spätzle (egg-based noodles), potato-based sides like kartoffelsalat (potato salad), hearty meat dishes like sauerbraten (marinated roast beef) and Black Forest cake (actual German name: Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte).
Fun fact
You can thank Germans for a few things: cars, aspirin, toothpaste, X-ray technology, Adidas sneakers, kindergarten, the theory of relativity, Snow White, helicopters, MP3s and the printing press. Alternatively, we’re not too sure about some of their less-inspiring inventions, like perms and the Kiwi-to-Go box (why?!).
